Description
The LWV of Palatine will host a beer-ranking event to demonstrate ranked-choice voting, an election reform in which voters rank candidates in order of preference, such as first, second, third, and fourth, instead of choosing only one candidate on their ballots. Supporters say that the system gives voters more choice and voice in their democracy, rewards candidates who find common ground and build consensus, and eliminates spoiler and wasted vote dynamics and ensures that winners have broad popular support.
The evening will include beer tasting, appetizers, learning more about the movement for ranked choice voting, and using the system to vote for the favorite beers of attendees.
LWVUS Position
Based on the position adopted at the LWVUS Convention 2020, League members can advocate for Ranked Choice Voting.
Speakers
Jim and Ed will give a 15 minute or less introduction to ranked choice voting with a brief Q & A session, if needed.
There will be a drawing with the prize being a growler of the prize-winning beer!
