As a local league, we have an opportunity to amplify the voices of gun violence prevention advocates this weekend. March for Our Lives has declared Saturday, June 11 a day of action. Hundreds of events are planned across the country including one in Palatine.
Palatine March for Our Lives Rally
Saturday, June 11, 2022
11:00 am
Margreth Riemer Reservoir, Palatine, IL (Quentin & Palatine Roads)
Look for the LWVPA sign to meet up with members of our league. The rally is at the corner of Quentin and Palatine Roads.
As LWVUS President Deborah Turner stated earlier this week, “I am devastated. All of America should be devastated. We grieve with the families of the 21 victims in Uvalde and every family in America who has been touched by gun violence. We also stand in solidarity with our League members in Texas and encourage each one of you to embrace and share their statement.
We are all too familiar with Americans having to make statements like these and struggling through this never-ending cycle of condolences and inaction. Gun violence is preventable, and the time to act is long overdue. I urge you all to contact your senators using our action alert. Through accountability, support, and unrelenting activism we can break this cycle. In these challenging times, it’s crucial to come together and amplify the voices of advocates in this work.”
